本片的情节构思与《小鬼当家》类似，只不过主角换成了老鼠。片中不少镜头以老鼠的视角拍摄，妙趣横生，而结构复杂的老房子则为本片增添了一点哥特建筑风格的气氛。本片题献给片中饰演老父的William Hickey，他在本片制作过程中因病去世。而片中老鼠这个角色也被处理为兄弟两父亲的转世。[2]
